Surgery Safety and Patient Monitoring
Your pet’s safety is always part of the surgical plan. Before surgery, we perform a wellness exam to look for concerns that may affect anesthesia or recovery. In some cases, we may recommend or require pre-anesthetic blood work to help evaluate your pet’s internal health before the procedure.
During surgery, our team monitors patients with ECG and blood pressure monitoring equipment. We also provide supportive care, including a heated blanket, to help keep pets comfortable while they are under anesthesia.
What to Expect Before, During, and After Your Pet’s Surgery
Knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared before your pet’s procedure. Our team will walk you through the process, answer your questions, and keep you updated as your pet moves from surgery preparation to recovery.
Before Surgery
Before your pet’s procedure, our team will perform a basic wellness exam to check for any health concerns that could affect anesthesia or surgery. In some cases, we may also recommend or require pre-anesthetic blood work to help confirm your pet is healthy enough for the procedure.
During Surgery
Once your pet has been cleared for surgery, we begin the preparation process. This may include placing an IV catheter and administering anesthesia. During the procedure, our team monitors your pet closely with ECG and blood pressure monitoring equipment.
After Surgery and Recovery
After surgery, your pet is moved to a recovery area where we continue to monitor them as they wake up from anesthesia. We will call you with an update after the procedure and arrange a pickup time.
At discharge, we will review home care instructions, activity restrictions, incision care, and any pain control your pet may need. If questions come up during recovery, call 706-327-8329 so our team can help.
